Borderline

Borderline is a company with an international reputation for creating and distributing inspired textile collections, produced from archive sources. The company, founded in 1995 by Sally and John Baring, started with printed fabric collections based around 19th century documents and textile samples, in line with their philosophy of creating traditional designs with a slight twist. Since then they have successfully produced the retro designs of Florence Broadhurst on fabrics as well as wallpapers.

Florence Broadhurst Designs:
Stunning patterns designed in the 1960s, available printed on cotton and also on Broadhurst’s original choice of paper finishes – paper, mylar and silk slub.
Florence Broadhurst was born in rural Queensland, Australia in 1899. By the time of her death in 1977 Florence Broadhurst had lived and worked in Australia, Asia, and England; performed professionally on stage; been befriended by royalty; exhibited her paintings; and started a wallpaper company whose success was based upon her own designs. She also found time to run a trucking company, start up a dress salon and agitate for women’s rights.

Her revolutionary wallpaper business was established in Australia in 1959. She abandoned convention and the restrictions of mass production and instead she created hundreds of unique and luxurious patterns, combining bright colours with blacks, silvers and gold, and printed onto transparent mylars, foils and metallic papers. She called her handprinted creations “Vigorous designs for modern living”.
